LEGO Mindstorms robots competition in Sneshinsk

On the 16th May the first LEGO Mindstorms robots competition took place in the town of Sneshinsk. The robots were built by pupils of local schools with programming specialization. The competition had two main parts: the general and the creative one. Each of them had three winners, who got their prizes and participant’s diplomas.

The general part implied building a robot that was to move along a straight or a closed trajectory. If a robot failed to do it, his owner got no points. The competition was spiced up by the restriction to have only one LEGO Mindstorms microcomputer.

The creative part the participants presented their models. Among the best were “The Caterpillar” that could react on the surroundings and a manually-controlled robot. The winners with most points were: Borovinski Cyril, Sevastyanov Nikita and Zolobova Mary, the only lady in the competition.

The competition was organized with the assistance of the Education Department and the teachers eagerly helped their pupils. Some time before that competition a trial one was held and it proved to be very amusing. So it was decided to make the competition an official one.
