HTC - Coupling

Each truck model must contain coupling device for compatibility with trailers used in races, meeting the following requirements:

1. The plane the trailer is based on should be located at 2H height from the plane, which is external to the axis, separated by 2 bricks from the axis of the rear axle. The trailer axle is H deep into the coupling.

2. The distance from the axis of the coupling axle to the trailer's angle is R1 and to the beginning of the trailer's platform is R2. Dimensions of the rear of the truck must be inside the circle with these radii and centre, coinciding with the axis of the coupling.

H = 1 stud = 8 mm = 10 LDU
R1 = 8.75 studs = 70 mm = 87.5 LDU
R2 = 10.5 studs = 84 mm = 105 LDU

To check the compliance with the standard trailer's coupling at home one can use the simple structure for dimension control. Please keep in mind that the loaded trailer will be slightly deformed, therefore it is recommended to leave at least 1 stud of space between the external dimensions of the truck and the trailer.

The size of coupling has been specifically chosen to allow both System and Technic styles of coupling's design. The following images show two sample designs of the coupling; one can use them to simplify the understanding of geometric design requirements.
